Kent Walton (OF) was named 2005 San
Bernardino County Player of the Year. Kent from Yucaipa HS led
the Citrus Belt League with a .532 average and 8 home runs. Kent
also led the Thunderbirds to the CIF/SS Div. II Championship
Game @ Angel Stadium. This is the second year in a row that the
Southland Shockers has had the San Bernardino County Player of
the Year on its roster, last year Jermaine Curtis (SS) from AB
Miller HS was chosen as a Junior. Jermaine is headed to UCLA
in the fall.
Poway HS Duo Chosen in 2005 MLB Draft. Thomas Neal and Xavier
Scruggs were both taken in this year’s draft by the San
Francisco Giants and Seattle Mariners. Neal was taken by the
Giants in the 36th round and Scruggs was taken in the 50th
round by the Mariners. Both players helped pave the way for
the Poway Titans to a Palomar League title and a 28-6 overall
record.
Cathedral Catholic HS (formerly USDHS) wins CIF/SD Div. III
Title. Shockers Alek Diachenko and Kevin Soares help the Dons
win their championship game @ Tony Gwynn Stadium, SDSU by beating
Coranado 12-7. Diachenko pitched 65.1 innings w/50 K’s
and hit .350 with 36 hits, 24 RBI and 6 HR’s. Kevin Soares
pitched 71.1 innings with 68 K’s while going 8-3 on the
hill. During his Junior & Senior years, Kevin was 18-5
and is headed to pitch for Point Loma Nazarene University in
the fall.
Halston Barcelo (Foothill HS, SS), Kurt Olsen (San Clemente,
3B/RHP) and Matt Daly
(Esperanza, RHP) are headed to tonights Orange County All-Star Game @ Glover
Stadium. Barcelo hit .421 w/40 hits, 19 RBI and 4 HR’s. Foothill HS went
12-3 in the Sea View League and was 19-9 overall. Halston is headed to UNLV
in the fall and will play for the OC All-Star South Team. Kurt Olsen led the
16-9-1 Tritons to a CIF/SS Div. II Quarter- Final finish. Kurt is headed to
UCI in the fall and will play for the OC All-Star South Team. Matt Daly recorded
Esperanza’s two CIF/SS Div. II play-off wins and help lead the Aztecs
(20-9) to a Quarter- Final finish. For the year, Matt was 6-2 with a 1.933
ERA with 54.1 innings pitched w/67 K’s. Matt will pitch for the OC All-Star
North Team and is headed to U. of Hawaii in the fall. |
